Folders for Active Projects

It would be great to be able to organize active projects by folders. We have many open projects and being able to have them organized by client would be a much better option than scrolling through 100+ projects.

It looks like the child projects are not listed in any particular order, e.g. alphabetically? We don't seem to be able to cange the order?

How can we turn it off if we no longer are interested?

Hi Gina, the image did not come through via email- can you send just the image this time? Thanks

Hi everyone! Jumping in for Kelley here :) We've added a new section to the left side panel for "Projects". When you click on that carat, you can see your projects in their hierarchy. When projects are organized by clients as the parent projects or another similar structure, you'll be able to see this now easily accessible in the sidebar!
If you or your team has voted on this request, you are part of the first group of workspaces to see this on the left-hand navigation! We'd love to capture feedback from our early adopters (drop a comment on this post if you'd like to share!) and will continue rolling this out to additional workspaces over the next few weeks. 🐝

Gina Lockwood: Sorry - How can I do this. Like what are the steps to get this to work. Just pinning items on the left side does not seem to group them? Is there some screen grab or details you can share?

Gina Lockwood: Its really simple. All we want is a + symbol here and the ability to add custom folders for projects!!!

Gina Lockwood: Hi Gina, I don't think this is entirely what we had in mind. Creating parent projects isn't really that helpful when we want to combine them in another format (i.e. ABC Company has 3 projects, but all of ABC Companies projects fall under the "non-profits" category. We'd want a folder for "Non-Profits" where we can put all of the ABC Company projects + any others like them into that folder). Let me know if you have any questions on this. :)

Gina Lockwood: I see this on my Hive. Thanks for the test inclusion! One note is that I expected it to be different than the nesting option in the Project Navigator which forces a Parent Project, not just a true folder. I don't always want all 17 marketing sub-projects rolled up into the Marketing Parent Project, but would love a marketing folder where I can store projects that all live in that folder, but aren't connected in parent<>child relationships. Does that make sense?
Gina Lockwood
Joe Radler: Hi Joe! Right below the "Pinned" section, you'll now find " Projects". Mine's collapsed in the screenshot, but here you'll see your projects here with their grouping!

Hmmm, I may not be understanding (or seeing?) this feature. We want folders to be able to organize projects in those folders instead of creating dummy projects at the top level (our workaround for folders). I do see all our projects on the left side now, but there is no new organization method that I can see. Again, perhaps I don't have the feature turned on, but I think we all were wanting actual folders for organizing clients/projects and not necessarily having all projects on the left side. We appreciate everyone's work on Hive!! :)
Edit:
Added an image of what we are wanting to help clarify.

Adding an example from another platform we used to use that shall remain nameless, but that gave you the folder option. in this image, product marketing and Q3 strategy planning are folders, not projects, whilst the 4 items below are true Project boards, but that don't have parent:child relationships.

Thank you all for such quick and helpful feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. You are correct that right now this will show the existing project structure instead of provide the ability to create new folders, but we can certainly understand how folders that aren't also projects can help save time and improve organization. We'd like to continue improving on this and bring you exactly what you're looking for!
If you are looking for the ability to add folders and not just the ability to see your project organization in the sidebar itself, would you please drop a vote here? https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ability-to-organize-projects-into-folders-that-can-be-pinned-to-the-left-hand-si
Thanks again everyone!!

Gina Lockwood: This looks almost exactly like what I wanted to see, no more fooling around with "pinning" projects. The tre structure is good, also. Thank you!

Gina Lockwood: Adding folders would be good, as long as it doesn't remove the function you've just added, as this is just what I was looking for, and while obviously related, is not the same thing.

Gina Lockwood: Agreeing with the group here that having the option to create custom folders would be super helpful. That way we could have custom buckets to organize projects and summary views or ideally both!

Courtney King: I'm familiar with this PM tool ↑ and it is a really, really cool feature.

Gina Lockwood: I think the OP was asking (and others to include myself were expecting) the ability to create and organize their projects within folders/subfolders that they could then pin - similar to this: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/209603609-Creating-Folders

I agree with everyone's take that while helpful, this doesn't allow for custom grouping. I wonder if the ability to add labels to projects and then group by label would solve this? I have independently wanted that feature - labels are super-helpful, and being able to use them as another, more flexible way to categorize/group projects and meet some of the same intent as the folders?
And this (which probably should be merged): https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/project-level-labels

Kelley Bunge: Apologies... how does one do this now that its complete? - maybe a screen grab or instructions/help page? Thanks

Kelley Bunge: Agree with Joe. Great new feature that many of us have been looking forward to but it's not at all intuitive how to activate it. Not in your "help" library yet either.

"Show nested projects" was merged into https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/folders-for-active-projects, which is in progress.
I suppose this request will be covered by the update then?
