For example, when pulling status changes from salesforce/3rd party apps to create a new project in hive, it would be helpful if we could then apply a project template to newly created project with an additional step in the recipe.

Hi Anthony Munoz, you can achieve this by filling out the 'Copy from another Project' field, in the recipe step where you create the Hive Project. Just select the project template you would like to copy as the starting point for your new project.
In the community library there is a recipe titled: "When Salesforce Opp is Closed Won, create Hive Project and map Opp/Project Ids" that should give you a good starting point for how to get this up and running.
