Prompt Before Auto-Assigning User to Subactions
complete
M
Micah Mowery
When I assign or unassign a Placeholder, or unassign a User from an action card with subactions, I am prompted as to whether or not I would like to assign/unassign that Placeholder/User to the subactions as well. This is the desired functionality, as it gives the user choice.
However, when I assign a User to a card, Hive automatically assigns the User to all subactions, without prompting. In the cases where I did not want this, I must then individually unassign the User from each subaction.
Please prompt during a User-Assign as well, like you do in every other case (User-Unassign, Placeholder-Assign, Placeholder-Unassign).

Kelley Bunge: I don't think this request should be marked complete.
The changelog says: "With this small update, we will now show a confirmation prompt when users reassign a parent action with subactions. You'll be able to decide whether you want all subactions to be reassigned, as well as the parent action, or remain assigned to their current user."
When a new subaction is created, it is still automatically assigned to the parent action assignee without a prompt.
Kelley Bunge
Maria Steger: That wasn't included in the scope for this change! We just focused on parent action reassignment.

We are no longer prompted when we UNassign the parent action user X. All subactions assigned to X will automatically be unassigned.

The user experience should be consistent. It isn't:
Scenario 1 | Parent action and subaction(s) are unassigned or have the same assignee:
— When you assign user X to the parent action, Hive will auto-assign user X to all subactions WITHOUT a prompt.
— When you unassign user X from the parent action, Hive will unassign user X from all subactions WITHOUT a prompt.
Scenario 2 | One or more subactions have an assignee that is different from the parent action assignee (or the parent action is unassigned):
— When you assign user X to the parent action, Hive will ask you if you would like to assign user X to all subactions. If you choose to update the subactions, user X will become the sole assignee of ALL subactions (former assignees are unassigned).
— When you unassign user X from a parent action, Hive will ask you if you'd like to update = unassign all subactions (including those assigned to users Y and Z).
Please don't auto-assign without a prompt.
Add a project setting: toggle on/off prompt to update subactions in ALL scenarios.
In scenario 2, a prompt should allow us to decide whether only unassigned subactions should be updated or whether existing subaction assignees should be kept with the parent action assignee becoming an additional subaction assignee (creating multiple assignees).

Currently, if the parent action assignee is the same as sub-action assignee, any changes to the parent action's assignees will be made to the sub action assignees.
The only current workaround to this is, if there is a different sub-action assignee, the warning pop-up will appear and you can decide if you want to apply bulk changes or not.
We would prefer to have an option (even if something we can toggle 'on' in workspace settings) to change this so the changing of the parent action assignee does not affect the sub-action assignees.

This would save me a TON of time!
