Make notifications their own page in Hive
W
Winshen Liu
The separation feels super arbitrary. and I feel like I don't need to see notifications for chat reactions when I'm literally in the chat and see the reaction. My biggest issue I think is I can't see more details about notifications. An inbox-like interface would be useful so I can see the history better and filter/sort like I do for the other views

Full page notifications

Can notifications take up a whole page, and be pinned to the side bar? Rather than a small window underneath the icon.. this will also help with urgent needs as this is the main way to see what comments have come in regarding requests.

Notifications have their own page please!

Option for Notifications to also have their own page! And we could pin 'Notifications' on our left hand side bar under notes or somewhere...

Would it make sense to keep the requests referring to making the existing notification panel more consistent and the requests asking for a dedicated notification window separate?
I would assume that improving the existing notification panel by e.g. adding more tabs might be easier to implement?

If assignees did not automatically become followers of the action (https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/do-not-automatically-make-action-assignees-followers-of-the-action-reduce-number), and if there was an additional tab "followed", notifications would be SO much easier to scan.

Right now, the "All" tab is just crowded and not very helpful.
Make it possible to hide the "All" tab and introduce a new tab "Followed".
It is basically impossible to see updates on actions I follow at one glance since there are so many notifications in the "All" tab, many of which are also displayed in the "Me" tab.
Hiding the "All" tab, introducing a "Followed" tab and displaying notifications more consistently across the tabs could perhaps be a quick improvement.

Improve notification panel: additional sections for e.g. approval requests, messages and dependent actions now ready to work on
M
Maria Steger
There are four section in the notification panel right now:
- all
- me
- mentions
- archived
It is not intuitive at all and updates in larger projects get missed easily.
Maybe turn the notification lists into a proper panel with separate notification sections for:
- new (sub)actions assigned to me
- updates on my (sub)actions
- unblocked (sub)actions assigned to me: dependent actions ready to work on
- new chat messages
- new @-mentions
- new approval requests
- updates on actions I follow
+ add a filter function (https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ability-to-filter-notifications)

There are (at least) three related requests asking for a dedicated notification page (with >50 votes if added up):

Drake Griffin
I'd like to suggest a dedicated page where I can see a thread of all my previous activity, including comments to AND from me, notifications about tasks/projects (due/overdue/date changed), tasks marked complete.
A collapsing side-panel is not helpful to me. I need a dedicated page that I can open and leave open either in a tab or another window.
Though I disliked Trello, one amazing feature they had was a dedicated page that I could bookmark and review at the end/beginning of the week to see essentially everything I touched, and could launch tasks/cards/projects/comments from that page if I wanted to drill-down or investigate.
And if you really want to go stratospheric, add a search field that will filter results, i.e. by @ tag or by project or by task description, etc.

Drake Griffin: Maybe https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/history-view will have some of the features you're looking for?

Maria Steger: Thank you for the link. I upvoted that request.
However, the proposed History view seems almost what I'm looking for, but not quite -- based on the request description, that seems like it's Hive-wide, i.e. it's ALL history for EVERY project & person.
The screen/view I'm suggesting would be PERSONAL HISTORY, aka some sort of MY ACTIVITY LOG.
It might be a lot like the COMPLETED view under MY ACTIONS, but split out to be it's own bookmarkable page, and including all comments I've written and @tags, and nicely formatted for better readability, and preferably sortable by Date or Project. With such a view I could backtrack my activity and trace every item I've touched in reverse-chrono order, so I could re-locate "that comment I saw a week or two ago" and launch the task or project from that log page. I think I'm basically just envisioning a "feed", i.e. like Twitter, where each entry is something like:
On {{date}} {{person}} {{event}} (in) {{task}} within {{project}}
{{details}}
e.g.
On Mar 24, @so-and-so commented in UPDATE MOCKUP within BEST CLIENT PROJECT
"please see the new mockup for this project attached"
or
On Mar 24, you COMPLETED the UPDATE MOCKUP task within BEST CLIENT PROJECT
and links to the items where appropriate.
I'm sorry if this is not the right way or place to provide this feedback. I've been yearning for this type of activity log for years, and this single change would make Hive infinitely more useful for me, so I'm trying to offer useful explanation of my idea.
Thanks for your engagement. I really appreciate your communication on my issue!

Drake Griffin: As the history view is marked as "in progress", maybe you should detail your wishes in the request? Maybe they can/will consider them.

Drake Griffin: Good news: https://hiveteams.canny.io/feature-requests/p/user-activity-list-of-users-activity-in-hive is under review now. :-)

Maria Steger: Belatedly following up to say: 1) re-reading this thread, I realize I misunderstood the link(s) you provided, because it turned out to be exactly what I was asking for; and 2) that feature you linked to is now complete, and it's AMAZING. Thank you for helping me out!
